Compliment Day, January 25th

Origin of Compliment Day:

This day was created in 1998 by Kathy Chamberlin, of Hopkinton, NH. and Debby Hoffman, of Concord, NH.

Compliment Day Game #1:

1. Gather in a circle.
2. Look at the person to your left.
3. Find a compliment for that person.
4. Write the compliment on a piece of paper and who it is for.
5. Gather the notes and post on a board.
6. All players match each of the compliments to a player.
7. The person with the most correct matches wins.

Compliment Day Game #2

Visit The Language of Flowers. Find the meaning of each flower, and try to create virtual bouquet of compliments to sent to your friends. (Hint: of the flowers pictured, there are at least five complete messages.)

And to the person who most deserves a compliment today: Edgy Killer Bunny.

You are intelligent, kind, generous, honest, and you have a quiet strength that makes those around you feel safe. When I am around you, I am comfortable enough to be my whole self. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! for being you! And thank you for being so supportive through everything! You are an amazing person!

  2. Thanks Master Fob! I always appreciate your brilliant blog and clever commentary.

To Him Who Emailed Me About The Cumbersome-ness of Looking Up Each Flower's Meaning:

    Arbor Vitae Unchanging Friendship
    Blue Bells Constancy, Kindness
Clarkia The variety of your conversation delights me
    Dahlia Eloquence and dignity
    Flax I feel your kindness.
    Heliotrope I adore you; Devotion.
Iris I have a message for you
    Mallow Good and kind.
    Rose You are beautiful.
    Rose Acadia Friendship
Snow Drop A friend in adversity.
    Sweetpea A meeting
    Zinnia Thought of absent friends

And yes, Arbor Vitea is modernly spelled Arborvitea, but as this is a site is a Victorian dictionary of flower language. I thought it appropriate to spell it their way. And yes, Arborvitea probably would not be literally classified as a flower. But, if you stick a branch of it in a bouquet, it will mean something to your dead great-great-grandmother.

To All: Here are my favorite combinations for secret flower messages

    Sweetpea & Zinnia
    Iris & Rose
    Iris & Clarkia
    Iris & Heliotrope
Rose Acadia & Dahlia & Mallow & Blue Bells
    Snowdrop & Flax
